Almost a century later, keen to continue this tradition of art and the art of living, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc has invited gallery owner Kamel Mennour to present a group of monumental sculptures by five of today’s leading artists: Daniel Buren, Alicja Kwade, Bertrand Lavier, Lee Ufan and Ugo Rondinone.
Five artists, five works that initiate a timeless dialogue between art and nature in the grounds of the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, revealing it in a new light.
In the heart of this exceptional environment, the works will amaze and surprise visitors with their play of mirrors, shapes and colours. Daniel Buren’s work combines the artist’s visual tool, colour, transparency and the ingredient “sky” - because “without the sky, and the sun’s rays, half the work disappears”, as the artist reminds us. Alicja Kwade transforms the material by creating a dialogue between a rock and its aluminium replica in a poetic game of mirrors. Bertrand Lavier’s sculpture, from his Walt Disney Productions series, brings fiction into our reality by giving form to images. Lee Ufan brings stone and steel face to face, establishing an almost mythological balance of power between two commonly opposed symbols: nature and culture. Finally, Ugo Rondinone plays on the stereotypes of sculpture, with an immense representation of the human figure in its most archaic and timeless dimension.
By inviting visitors to explore the links between art and nature, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the world around us, while celebrating the beauty and diversity of artistic expression.
