Depuis 1987, Anish Kapoor mène un travail sculptural important autour de la pierre, un matériau élémentaire qui lui permet d’aborder le thème de la dualité et de questionner les polarités de l’univers. La série Untitled, composée de sculptures en albâtre italien, met en scène le vide dans un jeu de coalition entre l’espace inhabité et le caractère pesant de la pierre de taille. Ce dualisme se traduit tant symboliquement que formellement, l’artiste faisant le choix de laisser la surface extérieure dans un état presque brut tandis que la façade avant est lisse et polie. Celle-ci ouvre sur une cavité circulaire de laquelle émane l’albâtre en saillie, apportant ainsi à l’oeuvre une dimension organique et anatomique impénétrable.

Since 1987, Anish Kapoor has been pursuing a significant body of work based in stone, an elementary material that allows him to deal with the theme of duality and to question the po-larities of the universe. Untitled, a series of sculptures in Italian alabaster, stages the void in a conjunctive play between inhabited space and the heavy weight of the cut stone. This dualism appears symbolically as well as formally, where Kapoor has decided to leave the exterior surface in an almost untreated state, while the front is smooth and polished. This second surface opens onto a circular cavity, from which the alabaster surges, bringing an organic and impenetrable organic dimension to the work.
