“I collect books and some of my pieces reproduce their covers found at bookstores. Sometimes I want to transcribe the cover into painting, when it seems possible. What arouses me the most is that the illustrator tries to capture a content into an image, they are often appealing images, direct and clear. ”
In this artwork, Valentin Carron reproduces a drawing that was not decisive in art history, and which failed as an ornament of the everyday life. To give it a chance, he appropriates it, restores it. It becomes the original’s mirror, its interpretation, its translation as Valentin Carron says: “I think I invented the translation of artworks, a bit like an interpretation in classical music, the interpretation is not the composition.”.
